Applying Lean Techniques
Reduce Your Cycle Time and Increase Your Flexibility and Profitability Through Application of Lean Techniques

This course is designed for supervisors and managers.

This course introduces the concepts and provides the basic tools for embarking upon your Lean journey. This course will focus upon the methods necessary to transform from a batch system to a profitable pull system and will provide tools for identifying and eliminating waste in the workplace.

In addition, this course will tie together many improvement concepts including Lean, 5 S, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, Just In Time and Total Quality Management. Classroom activities form a critical link in transitioning between the classroom and real life. This course includes case studies, group and individual exercises. Participants will leave with tools that they can readily apply.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Lean terminology
  • Value stream mapping
  • Seven forms of waste
  • Key metrics for a lean operation

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • State the difference between a 'Batch and Queue' system and a 'Pull' system
  • Readily associate Toyota Production System (i.e. Lean) terminology with its corresponding practice
  • State the difference between Value Added and Non Value Added work
  • Identify the value streams in your work processes
  • List the Seven forms of Waste and understand their impact on your work
  • Create metrics to chart the effectiveness of your Lean
  • Differentiate between Lead Time, Cycle Time and Talk Time
  • Understand the evolution of Lean practices from Henry Ford to today
  • Evaluate the worth of various concepts, including Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, Just In Time manufacturing and Total Quality Management and how they might be profitably applied to your business
