Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace Webcast

This course is designed for management and human resource professionals.

Drug use in the workplace is a fact in today's society. If business owners and managers want their supervisors to actively address the issue and enforce the employer's alcohol and drug policy, they employer must provide training to recognize the signs and symptoms of alcohol and drug use in the workplace. Supervisors need training on proper procedures to follow without violating the multitude of laws and regulations affecting privacy in the workplace.

This course is designed to assist supervisors and administrators in recognizing alcohol and drug use in the workplace and proper procedures to follow when these symptoms are observed.

Topics that will be covered in this Webinar include:

  • Reasons why alcohol and drug programs work to eliminate and/or reduce the use of substances in the workplace
  • Recognizing the symptoms of drug use in the workplace and their effect on work performance
  • The proper steps to follow when alcohol and drug use is suspected and a reasonable suspicion test is required to verify if actual use exists
  • Alcohol and drug testing situations and do's and dont's in conducting these tests
  • Utilizing the Employee Assistance Program
  • Integrating the rehabilitated employee back into the workplace

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • List the drugs employees most frequently use/abuse in the workplace
  • Describe the common signs or symptoms displayed by an employee who is under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
  • Define the steps to follow leading up to a decision to have the employee take a reasonable suspicion test
  • List the important steps to follow when an employee is going to be tested for all situations, except Pre-Employment
  • Describe the required Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) procedures. (This applies only to those supervisors operating under the DOT alcohol and drug testing regulations)
