Course Schedule

This course is designed for supervisors, management and Human Resource professionals.

The selection of the right person for a job is one of the most important decisions that a company or a supervisor can make. The right person will have the skills and abilities to do the job, the internal motivation to do it well and will harmonize with your current employees. While the focus often is on conducting the interview itself, the steps taken to prepare before and follow up afterward are equally important to a successful recruitment.

Participants will analyze a particular job within their organization, and prepare an effective interview and selection plan while in this class.

• Analyzing the job and what it takes to be successful
• Planning the interview
• Knowing what you can and cannot ask job candidates
• Guaranteeing your interview will be lawful
• Getting the information you need
• Converting uncertainty into an effective decision
• Responding to inquiries from applicants who are not selected

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Conduct a respectful, efficient and lawful interview and selection process
• Use behavior-based interviewing techniques to determine the presence or absence of job-related skills and behaviors
• Analyze a given job to determine what factors lead to successful job performance
• Evaluate resumes and applications for relevant information and potential "red flags"
• Select the best applicant to hire
